Yamaha Studio Lord Serial Numbers

Studio Lords are excellent guitars. They compete with, and often surpass their brand name equals. I used to own a Yamaha SL-500s, but sold it because it always stood in the shade of my SL-700 Custom. The 700 has SO MUCH MOJO, it even had it's head broken off, TWICE before I owned it.

It's just one of those guitars that feels so right in my hands, definitely a keeper. The SL-400s you're looking at may very well become one of your favorites, but if you can't play it before buying, consider that you can resell it without (much of) a loss. Bronw sunburst or Tobacco sunburst was offered on the SL380, 450S, 500 and 550S I think (please correct me if I'm wrong). If it's a bolt on neck: it's a SL380 (that's the easy one. Not a bolt on neck: the 450S had the LP type headstock, so no 450S. The 550S had the open type pu's, so no 550S. So in that case until proven different I go for a SL 500.

Serial numbers used to be used to tell the age of instruments. It seems now with Yamaha they are used as a tracking number for accounts purposes. I have a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-50 Digital Electric Piano serial number 19071 and would like to find its age.
